Junior High- Grades 6, 7,
8
At the junior high level,
students are instructed in a completely departmental setting. The learning environment
shifts smoothly from a formal approach to a cooperative learning
mode, depending upon the needs of students. Hands-on instruction
includes various realms of technology such as use of calculators,
computers, materials for science experiments, laser discs and access
to the Internet.
While emphasis in all
grades is placed upon academic subjects, religious instruction,
physical education, computer education, drug education, art and
music are essential to
the curriculum. Often
student work is part of local and national displays and
publications. Other
work is displayed within the school, in various school publications,
made part of our annual art festival, and displayed at Home School
Association functions.
Student work is assessed by means of formal testing, portfolios, effort, homework assignments and long-term projects, in addition to class participation. Report cards are distributed quarterly; at the end of the third-quarter, student-led report card conferences are held with the parents, teacher and student. Conferences with parents are scheduled when needed or upon request. Standardized test results are used to determine strengths and weaknesses of students, as well as to access and address the needs of our students, focusing our efforts again on the whole child.
