Religion Program

As  a Catholic School, our primary emphasis is to teach the doctrine of the Catholic faith and to influence the students to perceive religion as highly important in their daily life.  Therefore,  we  respond  to  the  fourfold  dimension  of  Catholic  Education:

message, community, service and worship.

Spiritual Life:   St. Amelia School is a Catholic elementary school in which the faculty and students are committed to growing in their faith.  Formal teaching through religion classes is important, but it is the faith witness of each  individual that makes our school Christ-centered.

Prayer, community, and service are the mission of all who are part of St. Amelia School.

All students must participate in all curriculum areas.

Non-Catholics must participate in all religion classes and exercises with the exception of the reception of the Sacraments.

Liturgies, prayer services, penance services, and seasonal religious observances are part of the spiritual life of the students.

Religion classes are taught in every grade each day for the required time allotment.

The Sacramental Program for First Penance is taught in Grade 2, Eucharist in Grade 3.

The goal of Religious Education is to help the student appreciate his Catholic faith, both on a personal level as well as a member of the Christian Community. In addition to regular classroom instruction, St. Amelia School has a comprehensive Ministry Program, which helps students to integrate their personal faith commitment through religious activities and service to others.

The goal of Religious Education is to encourage our students to develop an active relationship with Jesus. Students are invited to be actively involved in the organization of prayer services and liturgies. The sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are available and are celebrated regularly. Besides daily school prayer, there are class liturgies, special liturgies, and special prayer services during the year for parents and students. Bi-monthly liturgies are held in celebration of different feast days.  Our student body takes an active role in every liturgy.

We also provide retreat experiences for our students.

As an outgrowth of prayer and faith experiences, the heart of the Christian message is service. All students and classes are encouraged to be involved in service in the school or in the larger community. The graduating class, however, are mandated to perform fifteen (15) hours of service as a requirement of their graduation.

In addition, our 8th grade plan, purchase necessary food and cook on a monthly basis for Friends of the Night People. They serve over 250 dinners an evening.

St. Amelia School organizes a canned food drive at Thanksgiving. Each homeroom is in charge of donating canned foods for a basket. Money from the collections enable us to buy turkeys to help a large number of families living in our area.  Our school is committed to helping out in the community.  A service project is coordinated monthly as part of our out-reach.
